Client Case Study · Epic Community Connect
Tanner Health · West Georgia & East Alabama

One health system.
A whole community on Epic.

Tanner Health, a five-hospital, not-for-profit system serving west Georgia and east Alabama, set out to extend its Epic platform to the independent physician practices across its community. Purpose Health designed the program that made it possible, executed it over multiple years, and trained Tanner's own people to run it. The program is now Epic Connect Accredited and still expanding.

The Challenge

Community Connect is a program, not a project.

Tanner wanted to bring the independent physician practices in its community onto its Epic EHR: a shared patient database, integrated records across the region, and the foundation for a clinically integrated network. What Tanner did not have was the experience or the internal expertise to build and run an Epic Community Connect program. Every practice is a full implementation (recruitment, costing, build, training, cutover and support) delivered on a compressed timeline against a live enterprise instance, with no tolerance for disruption to the health system's own operations.

01

Go-to-Market Plan & TCO Model

We built the commercial foundation: a go-to-market plan for approaching independent practices, and a total-cost-of-ownership model showing what joining the platform would actually cost.

02

Program Governance

We stood up the governance layer: practice intake and prioritization, scope and change control, escalation paths and reporting cadence, so Tanner leadership had one view of every practice in flight.

03

Two-in-the-Box Knowledge Transfer

Every Purpose Health role was paired with a Tanner counterpart: program manager, project manager, analyst, trainer. Tanner's staff learned the program by running it beside us, at every level.

04

Multi-Year Execution

Executed across multiple years, practices and new specialties: rolling 10–16-week implementations spanning primary care, specialty and ambulatory surgery practices.

05

Enterprise Epic & Population Health

Embedded analysts have supported Tanner's enterprise Epic platform without interruption since 2018, extending into Healthy Planet, registries and reporting.

What the Program Produced

The provider target was met

The three-year provider target set at the outset, despite a first year run under COVID.

Epic Connect Accredited

Recognized by Epic since 2024, its mark for hosts with satisfied Connect sites.

Meaningfully under budget

The first full implementation year closed well under projected spend, and the efficiencies stuck.

A program Tanner can run

Two-in-the-box knowledge transfer left Tanner's own staff able to run the program alongside us.

Why Purpose Health · One Partner, Epic and MEDITECH

Tanner Health is an Epic engagement. The same program discipline runs across our MEDITECH practice, so a health system on either platform, or both, works with one partner under one contract.

A program, not a staffing order: one accountable partner across strategy, build, training, go-live and support.

Knowledge transfer by design: two-in-the-box at every level, so the client ends up able to run it.

Seven-plus years of continuity at Tanner Health; the program has never gone dormant.

Epic and MEDITECH under one roof, plus HITRUST-certified cloud, archive and DR.
